While doing some virtual spring-cleaning on my computer hard drive, I came across an open letter written in January of 2008 to the head of the INTEX (Integrated Experience) program at BYU's Information Systems Undergraduate Department. This proposal was to give voice to concerns about the education we were receiving, and while those days are past and gone, the need for education reform still persists today. My continued experience in the workforce only continues to emphasize more and more the need to change the way we educate the future of America's (and the world's) workforce. So in honor of that proposal, I have provided a summary of the article with a (hopefully) broader perspective.
A post about my life recently as there hasn't been an update from me in quite some time. It's interesting to see how the busier I get in life, the less time I have to update my blog. Really it is simply a matter of priorities, and I promise I'll do better in the future. Anyway, on to the update of my recent life...
My professors and teachers through my educational career always told me that life would only get harder as I grew up, and for the most part I agree with them. As we shed our innocence and seek out new opportunities, we are simultaneously taking on more risks and responsibilities. Of course, as we grow we hopefully learn to balance our lives and manage the greater burdens we receive, and I have come to think that we at least sub-consciously grow in our overall capacities to handle the stresses of our lives.
A small gig in Evansville, Indiana, where Frankie and Eric showcase their freestyle talent in rap AND the violin. Eric (BigE) brings a new taste to the show with his impromptu work on the electric violin.
Frankie and Eric in a freestyle rap and violin combo! This video was taken in Macomb, IL during the summer of 2003 at Western Illinois University.
Rough start to the last official semester of my undergraduate education. Is this a sign of things to come, or are things just settling down finally?
Oh...Hello! I'm Eric, and welcome to my website! My interests are in all things tech, but I usually stick to the realms of computers, the Internet, and audio/visual gear. I also enjoy playing the violin, writing fiction, skiing, and watching good movies.
After spending over two years of my life in Taiwan and mainland China, I have come to truly enjoy the people and culture of the orient. Hence the title for my site. Hai En Sheng is the Romanized spelling of my Chinese name.
As a few phases of my life begin to wind down, I find myself already making a transition into several new stages of development. Here is my ramblings about the experiences.
I've been trying to keep up a good work ethic without burning out mentally or physically. Of course, that is easier said than done. With everything that has been going on, it is hard to make sure I get any exercise in at all! I haven't had time to practice the violin, go skiing, or play soccer in forever, it seems.
The main things to talk about this time around are of course school, work, and Christmas!
An article that begs the question, "What is wrong with the world today?"
