This week is a short and sweet look into some great Audiobook player apps for you Androids: MortPlayer Audio Books by sto-helit.de and the Audible app by none other than Audible.com. While there are other apps that might play audiobooks well enough (i.e. Meridian Player), I am focusing this week's article on these two.

Why AT&T can't take the heat: Dropped calls and data usage

Thu, 08/05/2010 - 3:45am

This is a quick little blurb that I found extremely interesting. If you are one of the many iPhone (AT&T, not you jailbirds on T-Mobile) users that lives in New York or some other major metropolitan area, you've probably experienced some form of network coverage issues in the form of dropped calls or highly fluctuating data transfer speeds. I don't know about you, but I merely thought it was the massive load that the users placed on the network, both in overall data usage and quantity of calls. However, I came across this fancy article the other day over at myvalidas.com.

Android App of the Week: Kindle by Amazon.com

Wed, 06/30/2010 - 6:11pm

Oh happy day! The Kindle App for Android devices is finally here, just being released to the general public yesterday. For those of you who are not familiar with Kindle or Amazon, it's one of the most popular eBook services and products available on the market today. While Amazon offers a pretty sweet E-Reader product to access the electronic books, they also believe in ubiquity, and thus they have developed software for virtually every platform to access the same store and repository of eBooks. Their collection at the time of this article expands to well over 600,000 titles, depending upon your locale. These are my first impressions and thoughts of the Kindle App for Android so far.

Android App of the Week: LauncherPro Beta by Federico Carnales

Tue, 06/22/2010 - 4:40pm

Ever since I bought my Droid, I have been searching far and wide for the best home screen replacement app. Motorola Droid's 2.1 home screen interface makes a fairly inefficient use of the space next to the app drawer unfortunately, and the Froyo 2.2 Launcher program is nice but a memory hog with all of its fancy 3D effects. I first tried Slide Screen by Larva Labs, which is an amazingly intuitive and innovative replacement for the standard home screen. Next I tried Helix Launcher, which made much more efficient use of the bottom of the screen next to the App drawer, but it lacked some of the newer features available in Android OS 2.2 (Froyo). Then I found LauncherPro beta, and I've never looked back.

Android App of the Week: StreamFurious for Audio Streaming

Thu, 06/03/2010 - 1:03pm

This week in the media category of Android Apps, I took a look at the various streaming audio player solutions available on the market. This is for those of you who like to listen to radio stations but don't have an FM tuner built in to your phone. I use this at the gym and when I'm on my bike, but there are plenty of other applications for this as well. StreamFurious is so far the best App that I've found that helps play M3U/PLS streams from the Internet (AAC+ streams are supported in the Pro version).
